Bruises, Blood, and Forgotten Antibiotics

Today, I almost qualified for the Mother of the Year Award.  While trying to get both myself and Kathryn ready to go this morning, I made a big boo boo.  Kathryn pooped her pants right before we left, Wickett peed on the floor, and then Kathryn sneezed and blew snot all over her.  While all this was going on, I totally forgot I'd left Kathryn's antibiotic on the counter.  It must be refrigerated.  I didn't realize I'd done it till I got home and saw it sitting there.  Needless to say, it was ruined.  Luckily, Sue, one of the nurses at our pediatrician's office, went through hoops to get us a replacement.  In order to get insurance to cover it, she had to call it into a different pharmacy (because our usual one didn't have it on hand) using a different dosage.  It actually worked out because she called it into Stop & Shop and Jared just happened to be there picking up some Tylenol.  So...long story short, Kathryn has a new bottle of  medicine. I just need to remember to put it in the fridge.  Mornings can be so crazy.

When I picked Kathryn up from daycare I was told she had a pretty nasty fall while playing outside.  She has a bruise on her eye and her forehead.  I tried getting a good shot, but this is the best I got.

Kathryn is also turning into a little stink pot.  She likes to pinch our (and the dogs') faces.  Last night while Jared was putting her to bed she got him good and finally drew blood.

And just to remember how cute she is even when being a stinkerton, here's a picture of our blue eyed girl.

Another Ear Infection

Kathryn's been tugging at her ear for the past few days.  She just got done with a dose of antibiotics for an ear infection.  She was seen at the doctor's on Jan. 11 and was antibiotics for 10 days.  Obviously, she didn't get over it.  Luckily, Dr. Lavoie was able to see her today...on a Sunday.  She was acting happy, but I knew it was an infection again.  He put her on a stronger antibiotic this time, but we did discuss the future since she's apparently inherited my horrible ear problems.  She's had so many ear infections, I just wish he'd suggest an ENT or something. We don't need a referral with our insurance, so I may pursue it.  If she gets another one in the near future, I'll probably insist to Dr. Lavoie we do something else because I don't want her medicated all the time.  Ugh...very frustrating. She's been cranky all day.  I think she's tired. Hopefully she'll get a good night's sleep and the meds will kick in. We're just so lucky she's so happy when this is going on.

A Visitor?

Tonight Jared is working over night, therefore, I'm home alone with Kathryn.  I was bathing her and everything was going as usual. She was splashing and having fun and then suddenly, her head jerks up and she starts babbling and pointing behind me.  I turned around and no one was there.  Then she stood up and starting waving enthusiastically at something with a big smile on her face.  Needless to say, it kinda freaked me out.  I've always been a firm believer that small children can see things we can't and I think that happened tonight. I wish I could've asked Kathryn who she was waving to.  My guess it was either Papa Dan or Grandma Peggy.

Potty Time

I was talking on Facebook with a girl from back home.  She has two kids and has very similar parenting styles as Jared and I.  Her daughter is almost 2 and they've been putting her on the potty for a while, just so she gets used to it.  I decided to take her advice and begin putting Kathryn on it before bed.  I went to  TJ Maxx and bought a little Winnie the Pooh toilet seat to put over ours and we put Kathryn on it before she got in the tub.  I wish we'd had the camera on to video her reaction.  She did not like it.  I think she thought she was going to fall in.  Perhaps I'll tape it tomorrow.  It was so cute and funny.  I know real potty training is a long way off, but this is a start!

At the Park

I decided to take Kathryn to the little park by our house today.  It was in the low 40s today and tomorrow it's supposed to get freezing.  The high tomorrow is supposed to be 21 degrees and that deep freeze is supposed to be around for a few days.  I figured we'd get out while the weather was "nice".  We didn't stay too long, maybe a half hour because it started to get windy.  She enjoyed the swings, but she had to sit on my lap because there was no baby seat.  We went pretty high and she just laughed.  When the weather's warmer, I think we'll be at the park a lot.

Daycare Pictures

We have a wonderful daycare provider, Ms. Becky.  Kathryn loves it over there and she doesn't ever want to come home.  We're so glad we have someone who takes such good care of Kathryn while we work.  Recently, Becky compiled some of the pictures she's taken from daycare onto a flash drive.  Here are a few:

Tutus!

Kathryn got a surprise in the mail the other day: a whole bunch of new tutus to play dress up with!  They came from a Cynth, a lady we knew forever ago in Sierra Vista.  We reconnected on facebook a couple of years ago and she has been so wonderful Kathryn.  She sends her random things and we love her for it.  Thanks Cynth!

Good Morning World!

It was my turn to wake up with Kathryn this morning, which was not an easy feat for me, considering I was up till nearly 1am reading.  (Jared says I have a problem.  I probably do.)  Anyway...she woke up around 7am and she was all smiles. She enjoyed a breakfast of eggs, bananas and a ton of blueberries.

Another First: Mickey Mouse Pancakes

Last weekend I made pancakes and bacon for breakfast.  I decided to give Kathryn her first Mickey Mouse pancake.  My mom used to make these all the time when I was little and I thought they were the coolest.  I think she enjoyed them too!  She had excellent bed head as well!

Down and Out

It's been a crazy week.  It all started out fine, but Monday night Kathryn just wouldn't sleep.  We have never had a sleepless night with her, but that night, we came pretty darn close. She just cried whenever I'd put her down.  Jared finally got her down around 2am.  Unfortunately, I had to be up at 5am because I was supposed to go to a meeting in Middletown and had to leave early.  When Kate woke up around 5:45, I knew she was not well and I knew I had to call out work.  We thought it was just complications from teething, but as the day went on, it was apparent it was a cold too.  She was filled with snot and she was coughing.  It was terrible.  Jared stayed home with her on Wednesday and we decided to try and send her to daycare on Thursday.  She made it through the day, but she had a mild fever and we decided to keep her home today.  I had to scramble back to work to get lesson plans ready (I wish it wasn't so hard to call out in my job) and I've been home with her today.  She still seems pretty miserable today.  I tried getting her into the doctor to see if it's turned into an ear infection, but Dr. Rich is out of the office till Monday, so they called in some antibiotics just in case it is an infection. We have an appointment on Monday at 4:30, but at least I know if it is an ear infection, she won't suffer all weekend and if it's not, we'll just stop the meds.  I sure hope she gets better soon.  I'm not used to her crankiness, but I have to say, even though she's sick, she's still pretty agreeable. I just want my happy go lucky girl back.  It's hard being a working mom.  While my main concern should just be Kathryn, I can't stop thinking about all the stuff I have to get done at work next week.  Ugh...so frustrating.
She has offered a few smiles today, but they're rare.

This is the girl we've been seeing a lot of lately.

Daddy and Kate in the Snow

When it first started snowing, Jared and Kathryn went outside to see what she thought of it.

Let It Snow!

This post is about a week old, but I've been a busy lady heading back to school and even the gym!  Yes, you heard me right...the gym.  I'm running again and I'm enjoying it!

Anyway...last weekend, Winter Storm Bryan blew through Connecticut leaving behind almost a foot of white, fluffly, powdery snow.  We got Kathryn all bundled up in her snow pants and snow boots and took her out to play.  I don't think she was very impressed.  We tried sledding, but with my massive weight, we just sunk into the snow and when Jared tried to pull us, the string broke.  Good think I'm back at the gym!  We couldn't even make a snowman because the snow was too light and fluffy.  Oh well...it was her first time in the snow.  (Last year we had hardly any snow and she was too little anyway.)

C'mon Teeth!

Well, it's only taken almost 3 months, but some more teeth are finally starting to surface.  Tonight Jared was playing with Kathryn and she had her mouth open and was laughing.  Jared saw the beginnings of three little teeth on the top.  Phew!  We were beginning to worry because she's 13 months old and only has two teeth!
