When the new Killers album came out last month, I was beyond excited. I love The Killers. I love their music. I love Brandon Flowers. I love everything about them. Well...when the new album came out, I knew it would be good and it was, but I didn't expect a song like "Be Still". The first time I heard it, I cried. It's a beautiful song and I wish I could've written it for Kathryn. I think it sums up everything parents want for their kids. Jared loves it too and shhh.....don't say anything, but I've caught him a couple of times holding Kathryn while listening to it with tears in his eyes. We both love it and I listen it often. I've listed the lyrics below, but they're even better with the music and Brandon's voice. I think I'm using this for her one year video. Love that baby.
Be still, go on to bed
Nobody knows what lies ahead.
And life is short, to say the least.
We're in the belly of the beast.
Be still, wild and young.
Long may your innocence reign,
Like shells on the shore
May your limits be unknown, may your efforts be your own.
If you ever feel you can't take it anymore,
Don't break character, you've got a lot of heart
Is this real or just a dream?
Rise up like the sun, labor till the work is done.
Be still, one day you'll leave
Fearlessness on your sleeve
When you come back, tell me what did you see?
Was there something out there for me?
Be still, close your eyes.
Soon enough you'll be on your own.
Steady and straight
And if they drag you through the mud, it doesn't change what's in your
Blood.
Over rock, over chain, over trap, over plain.
When they knock you down
Don't break character. You've got a lot of heart.
Is this real or just a dream?
Be still.
Over rock and chain, over sunset plain.
Over trap and snare
When you're in too deep
In your wildest dreams, in your made up schemes
When they knock you down
Don't break character. You've got so much heart.
Is this real or just a dream?
Rise up like the sun, and labor till the work is done.

Walking in My Shoes...
Kathryn is still toddling around. She's a little hesitant still, but she is walking more. The past few days she's not been doing it as often and I really wanted to get it on video, so we tried last night. Didn't work. She was doing it reluctantly tonight and we got a quick video. She's usually quite happy while "walking", but she was a little whiny in the video we got tonight. Still...it's cute to see her trying. We'll try for a better video later.

Eatin' Time!
Kathryn's been really into feeding herself lately. She loves diced bananas, pears and peaches. She was loving carrots, but now she suddenly doesn't like fresh veggies. She likes veggie baby food, but turns her nose at the real stuff. She also loves feeding herself puffs and these snacks called lil' crunchies. They're like baby Cheetos and she loves them. She ate a bunch of them while I made corn muffins for my class tomorrow. Distracting your child with food is probably not the best thing to do, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do.

Kathryn Loves Her Mommy
Lately, Kathyn has been very obvious in her preference for me over Jared. This does not sit well with Jared at all. Tonight she was crying furiously in his arms and the second I took her, she was fine. I told him it's very common for babies to have preferences at this age and it's generally their mothers. Don't get me wrong, it does feel good to know I can comfort her when no one else can. Ha ha!
I took Kate to the doctor today thinking her ear infection might be back. Due to my chronic ear problems, we don't want to take any chances. Luckily though, there's not infection. Dr. Lavoie said her fussiness is probably from teething. I think he's right. Today she was a peach. All smiley and happy, but when it came to bed time, she was just crying and crying as she laid in her crib. I let her cry it out for five minutes, but she never cries and she kept carrying on so I went in and held her. Jared came in too and tried rocking her, but she didn't want anything to do with it. He put her in her crib and luckily she wasn't crying anymore and she fell asleep. I hope this teething comes to an end soon!
On a non-Kathryn related note, there's a possibility of a hurricane next week. I seriously do not want to deal with this again. I still have nightmares of Hurricane Irene. 2 1/2 without power was torture and we were the lucky ones! Most places were without it for a week or more! The power went out for an hour and a half a few days ago and I was so annoyed. You don't realize how much you use it until it's not available. I went out and got some water today and stocked up on baby food. I also got some stuff for our little camping stove. I'll get some more stuff over the weekend, but hopefully we won't need it. I really hope this doesn't screw up Kathryn's first Halloween. We are going to the Monster March on Saturday where kids trick or treat at the shops on Main Street, so even if Halloween is rained out, at least she gets to go trick or treating in her little octopus costume. Let's just pray Hurricane Sandy stays far away from New England! Keep your fingers crossed!

More Fun in the Cemetery
A couple of weekends ago, I tried taking Kathryn to the old cemetery to try and get some fall pictures of her. She was not cooperative. So...on Sunday after she woke up from her afternoon nap, we went out into the beautiful autumn air and walked to the cemetery. We got some pretty cute pictures, although she still didn't want to cooperate!

Party Time!
Yesterday, Kathryn went to her friend Kate's birthday party. Kate is Kathryn's buddy from daycare and Kate absolutely loves "Baby Kathryn". The party was at Deary Gymnastics in downtown Danieslon. Although she couldn't do much, she had fun in the bouncy house and crawling on things. I forgot the memory card in the camera, so unfortunately I had to take pictures with my phone. :-( I found out they have a tiny tots class there for kids 1-3 years old. Perhaps I'll sign Kathryn up when she's a little older.

A Day of Firsts
Today was a big day for Kathryn! She began the day going to her first big girl party for her friend Kate from daycare (I'll post about that tomorrow). Then while Jared and I were eating lunch and watching Modern Family, Kathryn just let go of the table and walked about 5 feet from the table to her walker! We were so excited! We were cheering and clapping and she looked at us like, "What's the big deal?" It was amazing to see her first steps. I can't believe she's getting so big I love watching her grow and change. I'm just happy we were here to see it and that it didn't happen at daycare. I don't think it'll be long before she's walking all over the place. Her other first was brushing her teeth. She seemed to really like it.
She is growing so fast!
She is growing so fast!
All ready to go to the party.
Bath time fun!
She loved brushing her teeth.
Sharing the toothbrush stand with Mommy.
She loves to eat bananas!
Look! You can finally see her two little teeth!
I've always thought she had the sweetest profile.
I think she looks so pretty in this picture even if her face is a tad messy.
Cheerios are a favorite too.
